AGAINST PROPOSED PAY PARKING IN QC:
RALLY AT THE HOUSE OF SUNTAY

As part of the people's democratic struggle against the proposed pay parking ordinance in Quezon City, radicals belonging to Partido Lakas ng Masa - Quezon City (PLM-QC) rallied at the house of Councilor Jesus “Bong” Suntay (D4-QC) to protest his Proposed Ordinance on Pay Parking.

According to Tita Flor Santos, spokesperson of PLM-QC, they went to Suntay's house in Mariposa Townhouse in Brgy. Crame to directly say to him not to push through the proposed ordinance because it will not help the basic masses to cope up in difficulties, but only exacerbate their condition to further misery. She added that the said ordinance is only for revenue generation and profiteering of the city government, and not a direct answer to resolve traffic congestion and carjacking. She also added that the said ordinance, which will create the Quezon City Street Parking Authority (QCSPA), will produce another source of corruption.

Santos further adds that Quezon City did not need more profit because compared to other cities, it already is in the top in terms of revenue collection in the last seven years. In fact, this year alone, the Inquirer wrote reported that Quezon City is the richest local government unit in the Philippines in seven years, and has a record tax and revenue collection with P9.4 Bilyon in 2008, which is higher by P1 Billion than the P8.4 Billion in 2007.

It seems that Suntay is not concerned in the plight of the poor, but his own political gimmick to gain mileage in the coming 2010 election. A trapo gimmick, indeed. The proposed ordinance will not only hit the rich and small capitalists whose business will become dull, but most of all the workers of these businesses, most especially those working in carinderia, bar, drugstore, barbershop, parlor, and others. If this happens, the business may collapse which will result in retrenchment.

So why do they need another source of corruption through the pay parking fee? That's why we call: No to the proposed pay parking ordinance! No to Suntay in 2010!
